November 5, 2021

The cooling temperatures have been a lovely reprieve from the sweltering days of summer, but any good Nebraskan knows this mild fall weather won’t be sticking around forever! Winter doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to stop enjoying the outdoors, though — not when you’ve taken the time to turn your patio into a cozy winter wonderland, that is!

At Groundscapes of Lincoln, we’ve got plenty of ideas that will help you make the most of your patio during the cold, winter months. From patio heating to awnings, and everything in between.

And if you don’t have a patio yet, it’s not too late to install one!

Turn up the Heat

One of the most obvious ways to warm things up is with patio heating! While you might have a clunky, industrial-looking outdoor heater in mind, we’re here to tell you that you’ve got so many more options than that. We can help you select patio heating options with the style and design needed to complete your outdoor living space in a beautiful way!

If your patio space is covered, hanging heaters are another interesting way to warm up your winter patio. Unlike propane heaters, hanging heaters are a permanent fixture, and would stay on your patio year-round. These can be powered by electricity or natural gas, and are a great way to heat a space without taking up too much space.

Another way to warm things up is to bring the fireplace outside! Installing an outdoor fireplace is a unique way to set up an intimate gathering space outside that will keep you and your family warm and toasty for months into the winter.

Fire pits — whether it’s a permanent installation or a portable version — are wonderful for larger gatherings. Allowing everyone a place around the fire, you can move your football parties or book club into the cool, crisp air.

Keep Your Space Toasty

Once you’ve got your patio heating options figured out, we highly recommend a few changes that will not only protect you and your family from the cold, but keep the heat in!

A covered patio is a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors when the temperatures have dropped. By building a covered structure, or even adding an awning or shades in strategic places, you’ll be able to trap the heat given off by the heaters you’ve chosen, and significantly improve your outdoor experience.

Add Cozy Textures

Don’t forget to add some warm, comfy blankets and pillows to your outdoor living space! This is a simple way to offer extra warmth to guests who might want it, but also a lovely way to decorate and complete the look of your patio. Having plenty of options like this will allow for the maximum comfort of your guests, so you can spend as much time together as you want, without getting too cold.
